The Nassau County Bar Association mourns the passing of New York federal Judge Sandra Feuerstein, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on Friday in Boca Raton, Florida.

Judge Feuerstein was serving in the Eastern District of New York in Central Islip, and was a Past President of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association and past Vice-President of the New York State Women’s Bar Association.

NCBA President Dorian R. Glover said, “Judge Feuerstein was a pillar of Long Island’s legal community and we recognize her for her commitment to justice and extensive public service. We extend our profound condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.”

After receiving her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1979, Judge Feuerstein became a Nassau County District Court judge in 1987 and was elected a state Supreme Court Justice in 1994. In 1999, Judge Feuerstein was named an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division Second Department and served in that role until former President George W. Bush nominated her to the federal bench in 2003.
